Concordia Expands Mission With Purchase of 113,000+ sq. ft. Building in Irvine

The Spectrum Campus

The Spectrum Campus

Irvine, CA., Mar. 8, 2023 – Concordia University Irvine, established in 1976, is committed to educating the workforce in Irvine and beyond for the 21st century. To this purpose, Concordia recently purchased a three-story 113,882 sq. ft. building in Irvine’s Spectrum Planning Area. This investment is a testimony to Concordia's continued commitment to serve the community of Irvine and Orange County, as it will house Concordia’s growing Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program as well as other academic programs and university offices.

The new building, to be named the Spectrum Campus, is located at 16355 Laguna Canyon Road, only three miles from the current Turtle Rock Campus, and allows Concordia to realize a key element of its strategic plan: new nursing and healthcare facilities. Concordia’s expansion to the new site will directly contribute to its local community and regional healthcare needs by preparing world-class nurses from its current program.

The Spectrum Campus resides in a dynamic biotech and healthcare sector hub within the city of Irvine. The campus features 20,000 sq. ft. of state-of-the-art nursing teaching space and more than 90,000 sq. ft. of additional classrooms, offices, workstations, and unique educational spaces. Located on a 6.6-acre lot, the Spectrum Campus also features a 690-space parking lot and parking structure.

Dr. Michael Thomas, President of Concordia University Irvine, notes that the Spectrum Campus acquisition is happening simultaneously with the implementation of a new strategic plan that was just adopted by the Board of Regents in February to guide the university through its 50th anniversary and beyond: “We had not even considered the possibility of purchasing another campus, yet we found ourselves walking the site and imagining all the possibilities for students, faculty, and staff. The more we dreamed about the potential of Spectrum Campus to allow us to greatly expand our educational mission, the more doors just continued to open in front of us. This acquisition enables us to maximize the use of our original 72-acre Turtle Rock Campus and expand new academic programs to meet the workforce development needs of this entire region. And as a Christian university, we are grateful to the Lord for opening up the tremendous blessing of the Spectrum Campus”.
